Patient's question:
Suspected trichomoniasis, how should it be checked, and what medicine can be used?Doctor's answer:
Hello; it is possible to take vaginal secretions for trichomoniasis testing. The treatment of trichomoniasis often involves a combination of local and oral medications:
(1) Oral medication: Metronidazole 0.2 grams per dose, three times daily, for a 7-day course. Repeat 2-3 courses as needed. If necessary, it can be used in conjunction with vaginal suppositories. Some individuals may experience side effects such as nausea and vomiting after taking the medication and should discontinue use.
(2) Local medication: 1) Rinse the vagina with a 1% lactic acid or 0.5% acetic acid solution; or soak in a half-basin of warm water with 2 tablespoons of vinegar daily. 2) Trichovag, Metronidazole, Carbendazim, or Griseofulvin can be inserted deep into the vagina, once daily or every other day, with one tablet per dose, for a 10-day course. Repeat 2-3 courses as needed.
(3) Traditional Chinese medicine treatment: 30 grams each of Sophora flavescens, Cuscuta chinensis, Dendrobanthus uncinatus, and Poria, 15 grams of Phellodendron amurense, are decocted first for fumigation and then for washing. Subsequently, a powder or suppository made from Sophora flavescens and Cuscuta chinensis can be inserted into the vagina once daily, for a 10-day course.
During treatment, maintain cleanliness of the external genitalia, change underwear daily, and boil bath towels and vaginal towels for 5-10 minutes to kill any attached trichomonads. Individuals with external genital itching should avoid hot water washing to prevent burns. Treatment should be paused during menstruation.
