How should nipple retraction be handled?

Patient's question:

I am 22 years old and have discovered that my breasts and nipples are inverted. I feel embarrassed going to the hospital for a thorough examination, so I would like to consult on what should be done about inverted nipples.

Doctor's answer:

Recurrent nipple inversion is primarily a symptom caused by inadequate breast development during puberty. In severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary. If the symptoms are mild, local treatment can be appropriately chosen, such as selective massage or local augmentation, to promote complete recovery of the symptoms. This is mainly to prevent interference during postpartum breastfeeding. Use a smaller bra or a 10-centimeter-wide bandage with a hole the size of the nipple positioned directly over the nipple. After wearing the bra or bandage, gently push the nipple outward and hold it for a period of time. The nipple inversion will weaken. Alternatively, you can place the shell of a walnut or a ceramic breast shell on the nipple, wear a bra, and gently press it for a while. The nipple will weaken.
