Features: Gathered from renowned authors and masterpieces, condensing the essence of literary brilliance; experience splendid civilizations and absorb wisdom for growth! As one grows older, reading becomes a more refined pleasure in life. In youth, even amidst fleeting romance, reading had to be accompanied by a touch of elegance. I often spent days with friends, starting our happy day amidst the waves lapping against the shore. Some read books, while others played the mouth organ. The wind gently blew, and young hearts were as clear as water. A few bread rolls, some sausages, and pickles made up our lunch. Often, we only realized that the day had passed when the sun set.
One summer and autumn, my close friend Yuan Xiaobing and I would almost every evening take a book to the Songhua River. We read our favorite books, sometimes exchanging thoughts and opinions about them. For the brilliance of the books and the equally brilliant, spontaneous comments that would just pop up, we felt a deep sense of satisfaction. When the light could no longer illuminate our reading, we would gaze at the golden river under the setting sun, watching the lights gradually brighten along the northern bank. A hazy, beautiful, and indescribable emotion swirled within our young hearts. Life truly holds many moving moments, and books inspire us to reflect on the human condition.
The essence of "" (sui bi) lies in its spontaneity—writing freely, following the heart, expressing feelings, and composing without constraint. It is unbound by form, genre, or length. Write when inspired, and pause when not. Let the words flow as the mood dictates. Though most essays are short, they perfectly embody the saying of actor Pan Changjiang: "Conciseness is the essence of excellence."
When relaxed, one's true self naturally emerges. With the right mood, one sets aside worries and writes freely, expressing their spirit and insights into life. It is an act of self-respect and a release of pent-up emotions. The beauty of an essay lies in its freedom and flexibility. It grants authors ample space to explore content and style. Watching a movie or TV show, reading an engaging book, accomplishing a difficult task, meeting a long-lost friend, receiving a cherished gift, experiencing life's joys and sorrows, understanding a phenomenon, or offering an opinion—all can be the subject of an essay. A well-crafted essay tells a story clearly, expresses emotions sincerely, and presents arguments thoughtfully.
This book selects renowned works on five themes—reading, descriptive writing, history, philosophy, and travel—to provide students and readers with inspiration and guidance.
