Features: The Analects is a historical document in the form of recorded sayings of Confucius and his disciples, serving as primary material for studying Confucian culture. Its importance is self-evident. To study Confucian culture, it is crucial to remain faithful to the original text of The Analects and make Confucius's thoughts clear. The entire compilation work, while respecting and drawing on traditional annotations, made the following attempts:
First, in terms of content, it adheres to the principle of refining and selecting, discarding the false and preserving the true, innovating and applying what is relevant. It proposes some new perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints, aiming to provide spiritual nourishment and theoretical support for cultural construction and building a harmonious society. Some sentences differ from certain traditional translations, offering new perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints.
Second, in terms of language, it considers both the characteristics of ancient Chinese and the grammatical rules of modern Chinese, prioritizing literal translation while using free translation as a supplement. The language is concise, clear, and easy to understand, facilitating reading and comprehension.
Third, in terms of layout, The Analects consists of twenty chapters, each divided into five parts: introduction, original text, annotations, translation, and commentary. The introduction helps readers grasp the main points of each chapter, while the commentary not only provides an objective evaluation of Confucius's thoughts but also briefly elaborates on them, demonstrating strong innovation, knowledge, and readability.
