Patient's question:
I'm afraid of accidentally getting pregnant, and to prepare for breastfeeding, I've been taking birth control pills. How long does it take for the skin to peel after taking birth control pills?Doctor's answer:
Generally speaking, if bleeding occurs within 7 days of taking birth control pills, it is considered normal. The withdrawal bleeding after taking emergency contraception typically occurs within 1 week after stopping the medication, but not everyone will experience it. Not having a breakthrough bleeding does not mean breastfeeding is successful. If you are concerned, you can have a blood test for hCG at the hospital 10 days after intercourse. It is not necessarily that breastfeeding is unsuccessful if there is no breakthrough bleeding, as this could be withdrawal bleeding caused by taking birth control pills, which actually indicates successful breastfeeding. If the breakthrough bleeding occurs more than a week after, it may be abnormal, as there could be a possibility of pregnancy. If the breakthrough bleeding occurs within 7 days, it generally does not require special treatment and will return to normal on its own.
