Patient's question:
After giving birth, about 2 months later, there has been continuous bleeding. The doctor said it was postpartum bleeding. What is late postpartum hemorrhage?Doctor's answer:
Postpartum lochia is produced as the endometrium peels off, containing blood, necrotic endometrial tissue, and vaginal secretions. Bloody lochia can be divided into bloody lochia, serous lochia, and white lochia. The duration of white lochia is after 14 days postpartum, and it remains white. The uterus slightly elevates within 1 day postpartum, then rises by 1–2 cm daily, reaching the pelvic cavity within 10 days postpartum. Postpartum lactation is due to nipple stimulation, which enhances contraction and excretion, so the rate of uterine elevation is faster with lactation than without. Pain caused by uterine contractions postpartum is known as uterine cramping. Uterine cramping during the postpartum period is more pronounced than during the puerperium, and it is more noticeable during lactation than during non-lactation, but it is generally tolerable. It typically recurs 1–2 days after birth and naturally disappears within 2–3 days.
