Features: The Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods were a time of great vitality in intellectual space and extreme cultural prosperity in history. During this period, thinkers like Confucius, Mencius, Laozi, Zhuangzi, Sun Tzu, and Han Feizi emerged, giving rise to schools such as Confucianism, Taoism, Legalism, Military Strategy, and Mohism. These developments marked a peak in the history of Chinese culture and laid a solid foundation for ancient Chinese civilization. Among these schools, Confucianism was one of the most influential. Confucianism was founded by Confucius in the late Spring and Autumn period and was one of the prominent schools during the Hundred Schools of Thought, ranking first among the ten major schools (Confucianism, Taoism, Mohism, Legalism, Military Strategy, Names, Yin-Yang, Diplomacy, Agriculture, and Miscellaneous). Works such as the Analects, Mencius, and Xunzi are representative of this school. In a narrow sense, Confucian thought refers to the ideas of Confucius and Mencius; in a broad sense, it refers to the long-standing ideas of the Confucian school. Regardless of the interpretation, there are three common points: advocating "ritual and music," "benevolence and righteousness," and "loyalty and forgiveness," as well as the "Doctrine of the Mean," which emphasizes balance and avoiding extremes. It also promotes "governance by virtue," "benevolent rule," and the "Way of the King"; it places great importance on moral and ethical education and self-cultivation. These ideas are fully reflected in the thoughts of Confucius, Mencius, and Xunzi. Prominent figures in the Confucian school include Confucius, Mencius, and Xunzi. To help readers better understand Confucian thought, this book selects portions of the works of these three thinkers, extracting influential and timeless quotes that still hold value today, along with translations and brief interpretations. To enhance readability, classic stories are also provided for each quote, allowing readers to easily and joyfully grasp the essence of the wisdom of the sages.
