Patient's question:
Today I noticed that the color of the blood has become more vivid than before. It used to be dirty blood color, but now it's like the color of menstrual blood. When I went to the hospital for a thorough check-up, they said everything was fine. I just want to ask what could be the reason for occasional small amounts of blood still appearing after a C-section?Doctor's answer:
This is due to the incomplete recovery of the uterus after childbirth, leading to prolonged lochia (postpartum discharge) which is a result of uterine atony. This can occur if there was insufficient rest after an induced abortion, or if the body is generally weak and prone to illness, or if the surgical procedure was prolonged, depleting qi and blood, which in turn causes uterine atony and continuous, thin lochia. Oral supplements that boost qi and nourish blood can be taken. Consuming Ejiao oral liquid (donkey-hide glue) may also be beneficial. For cesarean section patients, in addition to symptomatic treatment, dietary therapy can be used as a complementary treatment. A balanced diet should be maintained in daily life, avoiding irritating foods.
