How is uterine polyp treated?

Patient's question:

Hello! I have inflammation: menstrual brown spotting! Tested positive for uterine polyps

Doctor's answer:

1. For larger pedunculated polyps that can be seen or felt in the lower segment of the uterus, the polyps can be removed by dilating the cervix, followed by a cervical and uterine scraping procedure to remove any remaining polyps and send them for pathological examination.
2. For small focal or diffuse polyps, a D&C (dilation and curettage) procedure should be performed, with attention to thorough scraping, especially at the fundus and cornual areas of the uterus.
3. After uterine surgery, anti-infection treatment should be administered. Clinically, oral or intravenous antibiotics can be given.
4. For patients with significant bleeding symptoms that persist or frequently recur despite treatment with the aforementioned methods, hysterectomy should be considered.
