Can children with hypoxia have cerebral palsy?

Patient's question:

My baby looked normal when he was born, but when he was three and a half months old, we noticed that he didn't react at all when we called his name. My mother said it might be because he's slow to respond. Later, when he was six and a half months old, he still looked a bit slow. The doctor at the hospital said he had cerebral palsy.

Doctor's answer:

Cerebral palsy is caused by oxygen deprivation in the brain during birth, and some functions of brain cells have been lost. After scientific rehabilitation, children can regain some functions. Particularly, children with higher muscle tension may achieve more progress through rehabilitation, but they cannot fully recover. Children who undergo surgery show significant improvements in limb function. Regarding your child's current condition, I recommend visiting the hospital actively and following the doctor's guidance for treatment.
