How to treat trichomoniasis

Patient's question:

Last week, I started experiencing an increase in leukorrhea, and my underwear was mostly wet, appearing yellowish-green. Besides a very strong odor, occasional streaks of blood would also appear. I visited a doctor who diagnosed it as trichomoniasis vaginitis and prescribed some medication, but it hasn't improved yet.

Doctor's answer:

Trichomoniasis can be treated in the following ways:
1. Vaginal medication: Apply medication to the vagina after cleaning it each night (specific medication should be prescribed by a doctor). Alternatively, oral medication: Since Trichomonas vaginalis not only resides in the vagina but may also hide in the lower urinary tract, the greater vestibular glands, and cervical glands, local medication alone may not be effective in treating the condition.
2. Use condoms during sexual activity.
3. Wash personal underwear with separate utensils.
4. Boil and sterilize the patient’s underwear and towels.
5. Avoid public baths or ice skating: Public places (bathhouses or swimming pools) may contain unclean bacteria, which could lead to infection or worsen symptoms. Therefore, it is recommended not to visit public baths or go ice skating when treating trichomoniasis.
