Is it necessary to treat vulvar itching?

Patient's question:

Hello doctor, I am 26 years old and work at a foreign company. I used to have no bad habits and was very chaste. This year, I moved in with my boyfriend, and we haven't been together for long. I feel a bit itchy down there. I want to ask the doctor if itchy external genitalia requires treatment?

Doctor's answer:

1) Etiological Treatment: Completely eliminate local or systemic factors that cause itching, such as trichomoniasis, fungal infections, or diabetes.
2) Symptomatic Treatment: Includes topical and systemic medications.
3) General Treatment: Pay attention to menstrual hygiene, maintain external genital cleanliness and dryness, and avoid scratching. Do not use hot water for washing or soaps. In case of infection, high-manganese potassium permanganate solution can be used for sitz baths, but avoid local scrubbing. Clothing, especially underwear, should be loose and breathable. Avoid alcohol and spicy or allergenic foods. If there is rust or infection locally, 1:5000 high-manganese potassium permanganate solution (in warm boiled water) can be used.
