Features: Whether tracing the formation of a discipline, analyzing the construction of theoretical frameworks, or evaluating specific renowned scholars, masterpieces, or school systems, it is impossible to detach them from the intellectual and cultural trends of the era in which they exist. In this sense, the history of scholarship is indeed deeply intertwined with the history of thought and culture. It is not only the shared constraints of the external environment but also the interwoven internal logic that binds them together. To imagine that the study of academic history can be conducted in isolation, "discussing scholarship for the sake of scholarship," is both unrealistic and undesirable. For this very reason, this series of books does not discriminate based on differing "schools of thought" or opposing "schools," nor does it pay heed to the boundaries of "disciplines" or the divisions of "methods." As long as the works are broad-minded and rigorously argued, they are welcome in the fields of academic history, the history of thought, and cultural history. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say: we welcome scholars who are committed to reconstructing Chinese scholarship by engaging with history, appreciating tradition, and reflecting on disciplines—joining this "cultural endeavor," which is neither too grand nor too insignificant.
