Features: Wan Gu Chen and his creative partners combined Chinese shadow puppetry with folk paper-cut art, bringing paper-cut figures or animals to life on the screen. They possess their own joys, sorrows, and emotions. Some are antique and elegant, while others are lively and spirited, leaving audiences unforgettable. The key to bringing paper-cut characters to life is a thin copper wire. – Excerpt from Chapter 2 of the book
The book collects a series of classic works of Chinese animation over the past 80 years, along with heartfelt commentary, allowing us to witness the glory and pride Chinese animation once had. I believe it will also make readers of this book and viewers of these films believe that China can produce classic works that capture the world's attention. Chinese painting can be traced back to the hunting and gathering period, when our ancestors used stone walls as canvases and recorded the details of their lives with minerals. If these scattered and rustic images were connected, they might form a series of stunning animated masterpieces. However, bringing these images to life took several years.
Memory is strange—over the years, major events gradually fade into light sketches, while the trivial details remain as complete reels, replaying in the mind whenever there is leisure. For example, the spontaneous doodles in textbooks, the new clothes of a classmate, the green fish swimming in the river in the afternoon—of course, not to mention the indispensable animation.
