Features: Following "Above the Blue Sky," "Snow Covered the Trace," and "The Secretary of the Provincial Committee," Lu Tianming's latest anti-corruption masterpiece—its words brim with suspense, its pen directly confronting reality, leaving readers unable to put it down and pondering deeply upon finishing. Approaching the issue from a fresh angle, it profoundly explores the social roots of corruption; vividly portrays the clash between "helplessness in the present" and "anxiety for transcendence" at the human level; and presents the "high latitude" setting, the "shivering" of the human heart. The story unfolds in a small city called Torigen, known as the "high latitude region," on the Sino-Russian border. Senior Police Supervisor Lao Donglin, renowned as a master detective, unexpectedly takes off his police uniform, resigns, and takes up the position of security manager at Shengtang Company in Torigen. This baffles many and alarms some—because he is actually secretly investigating Gu Liyuan, who once served as the Party Secretary and Mayor of Torigen and is now the acting Provincial Governor. Branch Chief of the Provincial Public Security Bureau's Criminal Investigation Team, Shao Changshui, is assigned to persuade Lao Donglin to return to the police force. However, as soon as he begins to engage with Lao Donglin, the latter dies in a sudden car accident. Before his death, Lao Donglin writes the word "murder" in blood on Shao Changshui's palm. During the investigation, Shao Changshui and his colleagues face pressure and obstruction from all sides, at one point falling into a dead end. But as a series of informed individuals appear one after another, the mysteries gradually unravel, and the conspiracy behind Lao Donglin's death—linking the political and commercial collusions—finally comes to light.
