Features: Romance of the Sui and Tang Dynasties is a widely circulated and highly popular long historical novel in folklore, comprising twenty volumes and one hundred chapters, written by Chu Renhuo in the early Qing Dynasty. The novel is rich in content and features numerous characters, with a focus on the stories of heroic brotherhoods among figures like Qin Qiong and Shan Xiongxin, tales of the imperial harem during the reign of Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty, and the romantic story of Yang Guifei and Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. The author praises the chivalrous spirit of folk heroes while objectively exposing the licentious and extravagant lives of the feudal ruling class. Romance of the Sui and Tang Dynasties is an excellent historical novel, though, due to historical limitations, it also carries some elements that promote feudal superstitions. The article is primarily written in colloquial language, with appropriate retention of some popular and personalized expressions from the original text. To enhance young readers' understanding of the work, we have also included a section called Insights Corner after each story.
