Is dysmenorrhea possibly endometriosis?

Patient's question:

My colleague said that her menstrual cramps have been particularly severe recently. She experiences severe cramps every time she has her period, but the pain in these past few months has been much worse than before. Could it be endometriosis? Will it continue to worsen?

Doctor's answer:

Endometriosis, in addition to dysmenorrhea, also presents with other symptoms. In cases where endometriosis affects the bladder, there may be cyclic urinary symptoms, difficulty urinating, and hematuria. In cases of abdominal wall scars and umbilical endometriosis, cyclic abdominal masses and pain may reappear. Patients with intestinal endometriosis may experience abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, or constipation. In some cases, there may even be cyclic episodes of minimal hematuria. If the pain is severe, it is necessary to seek medical attention for a detailed examination.
