Features: China's economy is in a period of rapid growth and vigorous development, and its enterprises are increasingly integrating into the wave of economic globalization. The swift development across various industries has placed new demands on both the quantity and quality of talent. University students, especially those in science and engineering, should strive to become versatile talents who possess specialized knowledge in their respective disciplines, understand the general principles of the market economy, have essential management knowledge, and demonstrate innovative awareness, decision-making skills, and a competitive spirit. Therefore, management education, particularly business management education, is gaining increasing attention in science and engineering institutions. However, constrained by China's national conditions, how to effectively implement business management education in such institutions remains a challenging topic. With the aspiration to contribute to management education, we have organized a group of teachers who have long been engaged in management education in science and engineering institutions to compile this Modern Business Management textbook. Most of the lecture notes in this textbook have been used in various training programs for enterprise leaders and in university teaching, receiving positive feedback. During this revision, we also referred to the relevant achievements of numerous domestic and international experts and scholars, meticulously compiling questions and exercises as well as cases, while providing reference and reading lists to help students enhance their self-learning abilities.
This textbook systematically introduces the fundamental theories and skill methods of modern business management, tailored to the characteristics of science and engineering programs in higher education. Compared to other business management textbooks, this one emphasizes the integration of new management theories while addressing the different needs of management knowledge in manufacturing and service industries. Additionally, it includes chapters on enterprise information management, corporate culture construction, the science and art of leadership, and economic negotiation. These additions are also based on the consideration of enriching the humanities-related management knowledge of science and engineering students. Given the limited class hours, it is recommended that teachers, while teaching the fundamental theories, also encourage and assist students in self-studying certain content, and reasonably arrange both in-class and out-of-class teaching materials.
