Features: This book is another masterpiece by Mr. Zhou Erjin on health and wellness, following the publication of "The Human Body X-Shaped Balance Method." It explicitly proposes the concept of the "human body as a vast pharmacy," systematizing and concretizing the essence of traditional Chinese medicine theory, emphasizing the decisive role of the body's "internal medicine." The book is richly illustrated, easy to understand, and highly practical, making it a "family doctor" for people. Titled "The Science of the Human Pharmacy," it suggests that only by using the "key" to unlock the door of the human pharmacy can we fully tap into the inexhaustible and abundant sources of medicine within the body.
Traditional Chinese medicine has two major pharmacies: one is the pharmacy of nature, which consists of medicinal herbs (external medicine); the other is the human body's meridian system, which is the human pharmacy (internal medicine). The explicit proposal of the term "Science of the Human Pharmacy" is the crystallization of intellectual liberation through my decades of self-study in traditional Chinese medicine. It can be said to be hard-won and arduous. This idea of the "Science of the Human Pharmacy" is unique to traditional Chinese medicine, meaning that since birth, the human body possesses a rich and abundant pharmacy, which becomes even more so with use, until death.
"The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon" is a classic work on treating diseases with internal medicine. Ancient renowned physicians like Hua Tuo and Bian Que were famous for treating illnesses by mobilizing internal medicine. However, the path of traditional Chinese medicine has also been winding and uneven. First, the separation of "Confucian and medical studies" led to a large number of "medical illiterates," who lacked understanding of the essence of life and health and did not promote medical knowledge widely. Second, there was an overemphasis on "external medicine" while neglecting "internal medicine," resulting in a of priorities. Third, there was an overemphasis on medical treatment while neglecting family health care. Fourth, there was an overemphasis on doctors while neglecting the cooperation of patients, failing to understand that even the greatest physicians are merely "external factors," and external factors must pass through the patient's "internal factor" to have a therapeutic effect. Fifth, there was an overemphasis on Western medicine while relatively neglecting traditional Chinese medicine.
Studying the Science of the Human Pharmacy is to fully leverage the role of traditional Chinese medicine and effectively utilize internal medicine. Relying solely or primarily on external medicine not only makes diseases increasingly resistant to treatment, turning curable conditions into incurable ones, but also drives up medical costs, making the poor unable to afford treatment. In a family with a stubborn chronic patient, the entire household may become impoverished. However, the Science of the Human Pharmacy allows us to imagine that the 1.3 billion people in China are 1.3 billion "great pharmacies," with each person being a billionaire in medicine, with a medicinal wealth comparable to the Milky Way. How immense that wealth is! Moreover, internal medicine treats diseases by enhancing the body's resistance, and its effects are relatively stable. As long as we fully harness the energy of the 1.3 billion pharmacies, we will no longer need to hold a "golden bowl" to beg for food. We will surely conquer various diseases, significantly improve the health level of the entire population, and contribute to building a moderately prosperous society.
