Features: Looking Ahead is a brand-new English textbook co-authored by four authoritative institutions: Longman Publishing Group, Cambridge University Press, the BBC, and the British Council. It is rich in content, features innovative material, presents authentic contexts, uses natural language, and is highly practical. It organically integrates language learning with real-life situations, cultural knowledge, natural sciences, and literary appreciation. Its holistic language teaching approach enables teachers to develop students' communicative competence while also training their thinking, imagination, and creative abilities. This book was also the first English textbook used by 12 foreign language schools across the country starting in 1996. Looking Ahead has been used in our school for seven years. From the beginning of its adoption, we considered how to tailor the unit and stage tests to the characteristics of Chinese students learning English, in order to scientifically evaluate our teaching and continuously improve our instructional quality. Over the past seven years, we have consistently maintained unit and stage tests, providing a scientific basis for improving our teaching. Now, with the official publication of Unit Tests, the authors have meticulously reviewed and rewritten the original test questions with a serious and conscientious attitude, striving to achieve a perfect balance between knowledge and fun. During the writing process, we paid attention to the following points:
(1) This book is a test, not a product designed for exams, aiming to assess students' actual language application skills and promote the cultivation and improvement of their practical language abilities;
(2) Faithfully adhere to the original author's intention in writing, fully showcasing the characteristics of the original textbook;
(3) Combine the characteristics and actual situations of Chinese students learning English, adding question types not present in the original workbook, such as vocabulary spelling, background knowledge, and multiple-choice questions;
(4) Use up-to-date language materials to avoid repetition with domestic tests of the same level.
