Features: A Visual Manual of Chinese Art History·Painting Volume is one of the key textbooks for studying Chinese art. It is a supplementary teaching material for Chinese Art Education Series·Art Volume, a major textbook for higher art colleges, which was compiled under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and published by our press. It helps readers understand the great tradition of Chinese painting art. The Chinese Art History textbook won the Second Prize of the National Outstanding College Textbook Award from the Ministry of Education in 2002. As the editor of the Chinese Art History textbook, Professor Hong Zaixin has selected and compiled this teaching aid, drawing on his extensive experience in postgraduate entrance examinations at universities both in China and abroad. It covers the main achievements of Chinese painting art. Unlike previously published related picture books, this volume includes 1,200 painting works (including numerous exquisite details), featuring various forms such as rock paintings, murals, lacquer paintings, scrolls on silk or paper, and prints, spanning from the primitive era to the late Qing Dynasty. It presents a colorful and richly meaningful visual journey. The preface and introductions to each historical period, the information of specific works, and the main references to Chinese painting images at the back of the book provide readers with a relatively complete information database. On the basis of professional reading materials, readers can not only appreciate the beauty of form and meaning in paintings from different dynasties but also understand the different functions of these images from multiple perspectives. The accompanying CD-ROM converts the black-and-white images in the book into color images and introduces simple methods for creating teaching presentations, making it convenient for teachers and students to teach and appreciate. The editor of this book, Dr. Hong Zaixin, graduated from the China Academy of Art and has long been a faculty member there. He has conducted research on the history of Chinese art at the University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard University in the United States and is currently employed at the University of Puget Sound in the United States. His main works include Selected Writings on Chinese Painting Abroad (1992), A History of Minority Art in China·Volume (1996), A History of Chinese Art (2000), and numerous specialized essays on Song and Yuan Dynasty painting and 20th-century Chinese art.
