How to Determine if it's an Ectopic Pregnancy or a Miscarriage

Patient's question:

I stopped having my period around October 12th. On November 25th, I started doing self-urine tests for three consecutive days. Two morning tests showed weak positive results, and one daytime test showed negative. On the 28th, I had an ultrasound which showed no gestational sac in the uterus, but there was a cystic area in the right adnexa. I also had an HDG test, with a result of 13.711 (reference range unclear).
I would like to ask the doctor to help clarify this for me: What condition do I have in this situation? Am I pregnant or not? Is it an ectopic pregnancy or a miscarriage?

Doctor's answer:

You didn't get pregnant, so it's not an ectopic pregnancy either. If your previous menstrual cycles were always regular, it might be due to stress-induced amenorrhea. Because your HCG level is not high, you didn't get pregnant. There are cysts and a weak positive result, so it's possible that it's an ectopic pregnancy. Moreover, the ultrasound did not show a gestational sac inside the uterus, so you need to pay attention and have regular check-ups. If you experience abnormal abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding, please go to the hospital immediately for treatment.
