Is cervical erosion a disease?

Patient's question:

Is cervical erosion really a disease? There is now a view called cervical columnar epithelial metaplasia. The doctor gave me a thorough examination and said it was severe erosion. Is it really?

Doctor's answer:

It can be clearly stated that the so-called "uterine erosion" is currently believed not to be a disease. It is now referred to as "cervical columnar epithelial ectopia." This is a normal physiological phenomenon and not indicative of illness. Cervical columnar epithelial ectopia is essentially the same as cervical erosion. Many women with a history of sexual activity may have cervical erosion. If it is severe and accompanied by discomfort, it is recommended to seek treatment, preferably at a regular hospital's gynecological department for proper medical care.
