Features: The challenges facing kidney transplantation in the future include:
1. The primary factor for long-term survival of transplanted organs remains immune response. The current immunosuppressive methods employed are non-specific immunosuppression. They work by reducing the patient's overall immune system to ensure the survival of the transplanted organ. However, this approach leads to many adverse reactions, such as increased susceptibility to infections and tumors. While eliminating the adverse effects on the entire body is the goal, it still requires time before clinical application;
2. As kidney transplantation work progresses smoothly across various regions, the shortage of donor organs has become increasingly severe. Although transgenic animals have been developed in hopes of addressing the organ supply issue, many unresolved challenges remain. Of course, xenotransplantation is even more difficult, and the use of tissue engineering to create new organs is also not feasible in the near term. Therefore, selecting appropriate medication regimens to achieve better transplantation outcomes remains a primary task. This book discusses the experiences of various experts on these issues to broaden perspectives and improve transplantation outcomes. It holds significant reference and learning value for clinical urologists, as well as for medical undergraduates and graduate students.
