Features: The writing of "Aquatic Vertebrate Biology" first draws on the strengths of "General Zoology," systematically presenting fundamental knowledge and theories of animal morphology, structure, classification, etc., with animal evolution as the main thread. However, representative animals are preferably selected from marine or aquatic environments, such as tortoises for the reptile class, seagulls for the avian class, and finless porpoises for the mammalian class, to incorporate more interdisciplinary knowledge. Second, the extensive content of terrestrial vertebrates in "General Zoology" is streamlined, replaced by organic coverage of aquatic vertebrates in terms of morphology, physiology, development, behavior, and ecology. Third, in the chapter "Research on Animal Evolution, the Development of Systematic Biology, and an Overview of Related Disciplines," the author combines their professional experience to focus on introducing modern biotechnology research achievements and new perspectives and methods in systematic biology, such as cladistics and vicariance biogeography, to help students understand the cutting-edge developments in biology internationally, clarify the importance of zoological knowledge, and thereby enhance learning interest and motivation.
