Features: At the end of the last century, a disciple of the late Duan Xizhong compiled his master's teachings on The Spring and Autumn Commentary of Gongyang (Gongyang Zhuan Xueshuang Xushu), spreading his master's legacy, which was a great event. The Xushu is divided into six sections: Preface, Events, Discourse, Examples, Meaning, and Postscript. It provides detailed introductions and discussions on the writing conventions, subtle meanings, and transmission of The Gongyang Commentary, as well as the study of history. Although the book primarily relies on the arguments of Dong Zhongshu of the Western Han Dynasty, He Shao Gong of the Eastern Han Dynasty, and Qing scholars such as Zhuang Cunyu, Kong Guangsen, Liu Fenglu, and Ling Tingkan, it also includes the author's own interpretations, distinguishing right from wrong, with many insightful remarks, truly standing out among others. Moreover, the late Duan Xizhong made significant contributions to the subtle meanings of The Gongyang Commentary, such as the "Great Unity," "Connecting Three Dynasties," "Stretching Three Eras," and "Distinguishing Inside and Outside," as evidenced by his papers published in Chinese Historiography and Philology (Volume 4, 1963), such as Exploring the Origins of the Three Eras Theory in the Gongyang Spring and Autumn. Today, when The Gongyang Commentary is on the brink of becoming a lost art, publishing this of the late Duan Xizhong is indeed a great gift to the academic community. Additionally, the late Duan Xizhong wrote numerous poems and essays over the years, all of which are his masterpieces, and it is hoped that they can be collected and published as soon as possible, with high expectations.
