Features: The guzheng is one of China's most distinctive national musical instruments. It excels in expressing beautiful and lyrical melodies, as well as conveying grand and powerful musical compositions. The art of guzheng is not only a gem in China's treasure trove of ethnic music but also a treasure in the world of musical art. To further promote the development and improvement of China's guzheng art, to enable learners to understand and master the various schools of guzheng across the country, and to assess and measure the proficiency of guzheng learners nationwide, it is crucial to establish unified examination standards and teaching materials. This allows learners to know their own level of study and instructors to understand their teaching standards.
This textbook includes 52 practice pieces and 62 songs, combining practice pieces with examination-level repertoire. The content progresses from simple to complex, from easy to difficult, in a systematic and gradual manner for teaching and learning. It is believed that through a period of study, learners will quickly master the basic playing skills of the guzheng and achieve different levels of proficiency.
The required examination pieces for each level of guzheng as stipulated by the National Committee of the China Music for Amateur Instrument Performance Examinations (see appendix) can all be found in this textbook. In actual examinations, only nine levels are tested. The tenth level in this textbook consists of ensemble and duet pieces and is not intended as an examination level.
