This series is compiled by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out uniquely and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed as "Golden Medal Olympiad" and "Golden Medal School" series and is now re-published and distributed by Jinghua Publishing House. On this occasion of the re-publication, we sincerely thank millions of readers across the country.
Subject Olympiads for Primary and Secondary Schools (referred to as "Subject Olympiads") are one of the most extensive, widely participated, and influential student subject competition activities in China. Subject Olympiads are derived from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential middle school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness—qualities that are at the core of quality education and essential for future development.
Based on years of in-depth research on this activity and a large number of outstanding books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators from across the country who have dedicated themselves to this field to compile and publish a series of "Golden Medal Olympiad" and "Golden Medal School" books covering seven subjects—mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information—with over 200 varieties. In terms of variety, quantity, and quality, our Olympiad books are the most influential in the domestic and international industry and hold the greatest charm in the hearts of primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose and characteristics of the "Golden Medal Olympiad" and "Golden Medal School" series are as follows:
High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the latest [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education, while exceeding them means it is closely aligned with the competition syllabi of various levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements to cultivate interest, develop intelligence, and enhance abilities.
Second: Accurate: Scientifically precise, with a well-structured design. Each book is designed according to the characteristics of the subject, scientifically organized, and follows a step-by-step approach to provide in-depth yet accessible analysis and detailed problem-solving methods.
Third: Innovative: The questions are novel, unique, and engaging. They gather the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both China and abroad, representing the highest level of current Olympiads and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as new ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
Fourth: Refined: Selected examples are challenging yet logical, flexible, and achievable. The focus is on generalizing from specific cases and applying knowledge to different scenarios; it emphasizes multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches, with an emphasis on training thinking skills rather than overwhelming students with practice problems, making learning an interest and hobby.
Fifth: Renowned: Gathered by famous teachers and compiled from famous competitions. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited distinguished professors from top universities, special-grade teachers, senior teachers, subject leaders, and renowned Olympic medal coaches to contribute to the writing.
