1. This volume collects fifty-eight essays and monographs written and published by Xiao Youmei from 1907 to 1940, arranged in chronological order based on the writing or publication dates of each piece.
2. The selections in this volume are collated and edited based on the author's manuscripts or first published drafts, with manuscripts and first published drafts that coexist being cross-referenced. For others, relevant materials are consulted as much as possible for collation.
3. The collation of this volume adheres to preserving the original historical context of the author's writings, strictly following the principle of preserving authenticity and careful editing. Except for correcting obvious typographical errors, printing errors, repetitions, or omissions in the text (all corrections made directly, with necessary annotations where needed), and re-punctuating some works originally published without punctuation according to current norms, as well as standardizing numerical symbols related to time, order, and quantities, the following remain unchanged: expressions and writing styles that may not align with modern conventions, foreign translations that differ from current accepted terms, and foreign words listed without Chinese translations. These are left as they are to facilitate readers in studying and exploring the original texts.
4. Each essay or monograph by the author in this volume is accompanied by an "Introduction" (marked with an asterisk) explaining the writing or first published date and the original publication source, as well as a brief overview of the matters related to the title and the collation process.
5. Annotations are provided for some personal names, place names, book titles, organizations, schools, key terms, uncommon abbreviations, and references in quotations, as well as the collation process, and are placed at the end of each essay. Some annotations are original notes by the author or translators, which are indicated after the annotations.
