Publish Date: 2005-01-01
Features: This book should focus on the history of the Kuomintang, with its rise and decline as the main thread. However, the rise and decline of the Kuomintang are closely related to the relationship with its leaders. Therefore, this book combines the history of the Kuomintang with the succession of its leaders and is divided into four parts: The first part covers from the establishment of the Revive China Society to the death of Sun Yat-sen. The second part covers from the death of Sun Yat-sen to Chiang Kai-shek's retreat to Taiwan. The third part covers from 1949, when Chiang Kai-shek retreated to Taiwan, to 1988, when Chiang Ching-kuo died of illness. The fourth part covers from the death of Chiang Ching-kuo, when Lee Teng-hui succeeded as the chairman of the Kuomintang, to the election success of Chen Shui-bian as "president," and Lee Teng-hui was forced to resign under the chorus of protests within the Kuomintang after leaving the party. After leaving the Kuomintang, Lee Teng-hui continued to harm the Kuomintang. The Kuomintang suffered another heavy blow in the "Legislative Yuan" election and lost the position of the major opposition party.
