Features: The original title of this book is "Bai Duan Qi Guan Chong Ding Long Tu Gong An," which collects one hundred short stories of Bao Zheng's cases from the Song Dynasty. Bao Zheng is commonly known as "Bao Qing Tian" in folklore. For this publication, the book title was changed to "Bao Qing Tian Qi An" following popular usage. From an artistic perspective, the achievement of this collection of stories is not particularly high. The one hundred short stories often begin with a description of the case and the complaint, followed by the verdict and conclusion, with each story being unrelated to the others. Due to the diverse sources of the stories—some from traditional opera, some from oral traditions, and others from case records—the writing style, the quality of the narrative, the complexity of the plots, and the portrayal of characters vary greatly among the stories. However, overall, the image of Bao Gong in the book reflects the people's desperate hope for a savior in times of hardship, which has made him beloved by the people, widely circulated, and repeatedly banned by rulers. In the Qing Dynasty, after being refined and created by folk artists and literati, long-form public case novels such as "Long Tu Er Lu" and "San Xie Wu Yi" emerged based on these short stories of Bao Gong's cases. This book was first completed during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. Due to repeated reprints in the market, there are many versions, and the titles of the stories vary among them. The text used here is based on the popular Qing Jiaqing 13-year-old edition of the Zao Wen Tang, with other versions consulted to fill gaps and correct errors, and with punctuation added.
