Features: When words fail, we use pictures. Modigli, with humor that warms the heart and black humor that cleanses the mind. Modigli was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1932. Since 1950, he has been illustrating children's books and drawing cartoons for animated films. In 1960, Modigli moved to New York and created beloved cartoon characters for Paramount Pictures, such as the famous "Popeye" and "Lulu." I'm sure you still remember them vividly. His works are not only widely popular but also published in many countries. In 1974, he held a solo exhibition in France, and in 1975, he held a major solo exhibition in Barcelona, both of which received great response. Of course, he has also received many awards, such as the Silver Medal for the International Biennial of Humorous Illustrators in 1967, the Best Children's Book Selection at the Bologna International Book Fair in 1970, and the Argentine Illustrators Association Award in 1974, among others. In 1977, he was nominated as the Best Humorous Illustrator of the Year. Modigli's illustrations have smooth lines, bright and elegant colors, and his main characters, whether human or animal, have round, funny, and adorable appearances, with exaggerated big noses, which is why they are so beloved. The master of silent film, Marcel Marceau, once described enjoying Modigli's paintings as watching a tightly scripted movie, with unexpected surprises coming one after another, tightly combining many unforeseen surprises and absurd logic. Modigli once said, "Humor is a compliment to despair." That's why in his paintings, the main characters are mostly not heroes but ordinary people. They mostly don't know how to adapt to the times, but they are helplessly dissatisfied with reality. For example, a main character gets annoyed by a small insect while reading a newspaper and steps on it with his foot. However, the proud main character didn't expect that a big foot was stepping down on his head. Another interesting example is when two people are fighting to kick a ball. The shorter one knows he can't compete with the taller one, so he holds up a bill to distract him. In the end, the shorter one succeeds in getting the ball. Is the bill really that attractive? We're not sure. But when reality shifts into the realm of exaggeration, the absurd world becomes even more real. Let's come together to experience Modigli's creative and humorous world!
"Humanity will probably need another 2,000 years to invent a language that everyone can communicate with." Scientists think so. But Modigli said, "I want to invent a humor that doesn't require words or translation, so that the whole world can understand at a glance." He did it! Just with the thoughts and expressions in his paintings. Modigli was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1932. He started drawing picture books in 1950 and completed his first animated film in 1952. In 1955, he moved to Lima, Peru, to become the art director of an advertising company. In 1960, he moved to New York and drew "Popeye" and "Lulu" for Paramount Pictures. In 1963, he moved to Paris and stayed there for 17 years. In 1980, he moved to Majorca Island.
