Twentieth-Century Chinese Art Anthology

Author: Lang Shaojun
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1999-11-01
Features: The history of painting and painting theory passed down through the generations in China is extremely rich. Together with a vast number of outstanding works of art, they form the profound and extensive system of Chinese art. Since the 20th century, due to the influence of social revolutions and Western thought, artistic thought has shown unprecedented vitality. However, our research on Chinese artistic thought in this century is still weak, and the first lack is the collection and organization of relevant materials and documents. Thus, the idea of editing this book arose. The selection of materials in this book focuses on art theory and thought, including articles related to the themes of art theory and the phenomena of art. Studies by 20th-century Chinese artists on ancient and Western art, various manifestos and regulations in modern art movements, documents of various events, case studies of artists with little connection to modern art thought, and articles on various artistic techniques are all included. This book is a reference work, and in the selection process, the principle of respecting the original historical context is followed. The choices are not determined by the compilers' personal preferences. The right and wrong of famous schools and masters, as well as the trends and movements of various historical periods, are left for readers to contemplate and discern. The arrangement of articles is generally in chronological order of publication, with minor adjustments made within a narrow time frame. Occasionally, articles are slightly categorized by topic, and works with undetermined publication dates are grouped into the closest corresponding period.
