Features:
1. As an important interim research outcome of the "Historical Records of the Yellow River during the Republic of China," this book compiles 965 major events related to Yellow River management from the founding year of the Republic of China to the 38th year, striving to depict a concise historical panorama of the Yellow River during the Republic of China era through concrete examples.
2. Guided by dialectical materialism and historical materialism, the book objectively reflects historical figures and events, avoiding exaggeration or concealment. It adopts a combination of chronological and biographical styles, arranging years horizontally and narrating events vertically, aiming to achieve an organic integration of chronological order and the completeness of event development.
3. The main content of the book includes: the formulation and implementation of important Yellow River management regulations, plans, and programs; inspections of the Yellow River by central and local high-ranking officials of the Republic of China government and their significant remarks; major Yellow River surveys and investigations.
4. The sources of the book's data are as follows:
1. The Yellow River Archive of the Yellow River Unfavorable Committee under the Ministry of Water Resources, the Second Historical Archives of China, and a large number of Republican-era Yellow River management archives stored in archives of Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, and other provinces;
2. Yellow River chronicles, Yellow River management works, and related publications compiled and published by the Yellow River Conservancy Commission system;
3. Provincial, municipal, and county chronicles, as well as provincial, municipal, and county water management chronicles, from Yellow River basin provinces and the Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, stored in local chronicle offices, water conservancy bureaus, libraries, and collections;
4. Documents, diaries, and other materials preserved by experts who once engaged in Republican-era Yellow River management;
5. Other relevant books and periodicals.
5. For convenience of narration, the book uses the full names of certain frequently mentioned institutional names upon first mention and abbreviations thereafter.
6. The book adopts the Republican era calendar. Events with unclear dates are recorded at the end of the month, and events with unclear months are recorded at the end of the year. For events spanning a long period, a general overview is provided at the beginning or a summary is given at the end to ensure clarity and avoid fragmented descriptions.
7. Due to the scarcity of Yellow River management data from the early Republican era and the brevity of its records, some events are only recorded with years but no months or days. Except for major events such as dam repairs, most such data are generally excluded. Metric units such as kilograms, cubic meters, and square kilometers are generally used, while old units used in the data are recorded as they appear.
8. During the Republican era, wars and government changes occurred frequently, and the main body of Yellow River management underwent a transition from the Beiyang Government, the Nationalist Government, to the Liberation Government of the Communist Party of China.
