Features: The Yellow River was once known as the "Mother of Rivers" and the "Head of a Hundred Rivers" in ancient times. It has nurtured the growth of the Chinese nation and given birth to the splendid Chinese civilization. However, due to the Yellow River flowing through the world's largest Loess Plateau, a vast amount of silt is transported to the downstream river channels year after year, causing them to silt up and rise, forming an "upturned river" above ground. Historically, the Yellow River frequently flooded, with breaches occurring every three years and major course changes every century, bringing immense disasters to the people living along its banks. Governing the Yellow River has always been a matter of national importance. Over generations, ancestors have waged relentless struggles to control the Yellow River's floods, accumulating rich river management experience and creating numerous river control technologies. Figures like Jia Rang, Wang Jing, and Pan Jiuxun emerged as pioneers in river management. However, due to the limitations of historical conditions and technological levels, these efforts did not prevent the Yellow River from devastating floods and frequent breaches. To compile historical records and learn from the past for the present, the General Editor's Office of the Yellow River History has revised the Chronicles of Major Events in the Yellow River and added significant events that occurred in the 1990s on the Yellow River, compiling this new Chronicles of Major Events in the Yellow River. This is a meaningful endeavor, and it is believed that it will provide valuable references for the Yellow River's governance and development in the 21st century.
