Do ovarian corpus luteum cysts need treatment?

Patient's question:

Doctor, I am 32 years old this year, divorced 2 years ago, and currently have no children. My last menstrual period ended on the 1st of this month, and on the 8th, I had some vaginal cracking. When I pressed the lower right side of my abdomen, it was a bit painful. The doctor at the hospital did a thorough examination and said it was a corpus luteum cyst. However, the doctor was quite vague, and I didn't quite understand. I would like to consult whether a corpus luteum cyst needs treatment.

Doctor's answer:

Normal corpus luteum is a cystic structure, which can make the ovary slightly smaller. If the cystic corpus luteum persists or grows, or if the corpus luteum hematoma contains a large amount of blood, the blood is calcified, corpus luteum cysts can be formed. Due to the continuous secretion of progesterone by the cysts, the menstrual cycle is often delayed. If the cyst ruptures, abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding may occur again, which is very similar to the rupture of ectopic pregnancy. Generally, there is no special treatment, it can disappear by itself, and B-ultrasound should be rechecked after menstruation. If the cyst ruptures again or the pedicle is reversed, emergency treatment should be given.
