Features: The "Ten Tong" (or "Shi Tong") refers to the collective name of ten major works with the character "Tong" in their titles. After Du You of the Tang Dynasty compiled the "Tongdian" (Comprehensive Treatise), Zheng Qiao of the Southern Song Dynasty wrote the "Tongzhi" (Comprehensive Records), and Ma Duanlin of the early Yuan Dynasty compiled the "Wenxian Tongkao" (Comprehensive Examination of Literature and History), these three are collectively known as the "Three Tong" (San Tong). During the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, the imperial court compiled the "Xutongdian" (Continuation of the Comprehensive Treatise), "Qingchao Tongdian" (Comprehensive Treatise of the Qing Dynasty), "Xutongzhi" (Continuation of the Comprehensive Records), "Qingchao Tongzhi" (Comprehensive Records of the Qing Dynasty), "Xuwenxian Tongkao" (Continuation of the Comprehensive Examination of Literature and History), and "Qingchao Wenxian Tongkao" (Comprehensive Examination of Literature and History of the Qing Dynasty). Adding these six works to the original "Three Tong," they are collectively referred to as the "Nine Tong" (Jiu Tong).
