Features: Introducing others is a form of etiquette that establishes relationships between strangers through proper introductions. How to make strangers who have never met before connect, understand, trust, and become harmonious depends on the principles followed during the introduction process.
The order of introduction When introducing, it is essential to adhere to the principle that the party receiving special respect has the priority to know the other person, which means there is a specific order for introductions. In social activities, the general principles of introduction are as follows:
(1) Introducing a man to a woman In Western societies, the principle of "women first" is widely accepted. Therefore, in general situations, a man should be introduced to a woman. However, if the man holds a high status or is a high-ranking official, such as a head of state, speaker of the parliament, minister, bishop, or ambassador, it may be necessary to prioritize respect for the woman and introduce her to the man instead.
(2) Introducing someone with a lower position to someone with a higher position This is often used in formal settings and is particularly suitable for people in the same profession.
(3) Introducing a junior to a senior It is important to distinguish the ages of both parties, and this is usually applicable between people of the same gender.
(4) Introducing an unmarried person to a married person When introducing two people to each other, the general requirement is to introduce the person you respect to the one being introduced, following the principle of "the respected person comes last." In terms of verbal expression, you should first address the respected party before introducing the introducer.
The above order of introduction is internationally recognized. Reversing or confusing their sequence may lead to unpleasant consequences and misunderstandings among international friends. In official activities, public relations personnel are the most appropriate choice for introducers. When welcoming distinguished guests, the highest-ranking person in the organization should serve as the introducer. In social settings, such as attending banquets, receptions, or dances, it is the host's responsibility to introduce strangers to each other. In other informal settings, someone who knows both parties can also act as an introducer to introduce their friends to each other. Of course, if you want to meet someone, you can also actively ask someone familiar with both parties to introduce you. From the perspective of introduction etiquette, this is acceptable.
Etiquette during introduction First, it is important to determine whether both parties have a need or desire to meet. If necessary, you can ask the person being introduced for their opinion to avoid awkward silences, which means making both parties mentally prepared by first greeting them. When introducing people from different countries, it is advisable to consider the relationship between the two countries and whether they have diplomatic ties.
Second, the introducer's statement should be clear and concise, avoiding vagueness. The duration should be short rather than long, and the content should be brief rather than elaborate. In more formal settings, you might say: "Mr. Macao Smith, please allow me to introduce Mr. Zhang Rong to you." In informal settings, you can omit the polite address and the name of the person being introduced, such as: "Ms. Wang, let me introduce you to Mr. Lin." The simplest form of introduction is to use a gesture to assist. Point to one person, say "This is Mr. Hong," then point to the other and say "This is Mr. Deng," with the palm of your right hand facing up and your arm slightly extended.
Third, the introducer
