Features: Shen Jiwei was born in Shanghai in 1948. In 1970, he went to the Northeast to support the country from his hometown Jiaxing, becoming a labor army soldier and amateur painter. In 1974, he gained recognition for his oil painting "Standing Guard for Our Great Motherland." In 1998, the painting was exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum after restoration. In 1981, he became a full-time painter at the Liaoning Art Institute. In 1982, he joined the All-China Artists Association. From 1982 to 1984, he studied at the Oil Painting Advanced Course of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In early 1989, he moved to Sydney, Australia, and has continued his career as a professional painter ever since. During his time in China, he mainly engaged in the creation and research of historical paintings. His important works, such as "Red Rock," "Trauma," and "Red Star Over China," are collected by the National Art Museum of China and the Revolutionary Museum, and he has won the National Art Exhibition Award five times. Upon arriving in Australia, he restarted his career. In the first three years, he made a living by painting portraits, meticulously studying the diverse facial features of people from all over the world, completing over 5,000 portraits, thus laying a solid foundation for portrait painting techniques. Starting in 1993, he entered seven consecutive years of the highly regarded Archibald Portraiture Prize competition in Australia, quickly gaining recognition in the mainstream art world and joining the ranks of Australia's finest portrait painters. In early 1995, he won the "Mary MacGillup Art Prize" name with a rigorous, realistic historical painting, which led to an audience with Pope John Paul II and the presentation of a commemorative medal. In recent years, he has focused on the research and creation of new historical paintings. He diligently studies the achievements of modern and contemporary art in the 20th century, absorbs beneficial elements, and insists on using realistic techniques to express his reflections on human history. This attempt has attracted attention from the mainstream art world and has been well-received by the general audience. In summer 2000, he was invited to Beijing's Revolutionary Military Museum to create a large-scale historical painting titled "The Hundred Regiments Offensive" and attended the academic symposium for the "20th Century Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition."
