Does endometriosis get worse?

Patient's question:

I had a laparoscopy last year and it revealed a small tumor. This year, during a follow-up check-up, the doctor told me I have endometriosis. I don't know if it was caused by the tumor. Is endometriosis serious?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, patients with endometriosis often experience symptoms such as dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), menstrual irregularities, infertility, pain during intercourse, cyclical hematuria (periodic blood in urine), cyclical hemoptysis (periodic blood in cough), nausea, and vomiting. The treatment for endometriosis depends on your symptoms, age, and whether you have been advised not to conceive. There are two methods. One is surgical treatment, such as hysterectomy (which is the primary treatment), and the other is medication, which can be tested for younger patients with fertility recommendations or those who are recently menopausal. The earlier the treatment, the better. To prevent anemia, it is also recommended that you enhance your nutrition (such as iron, vitamins, etc.).
