Features: After China's entry into the WTO, foreign economic trade has been more closely integrated into the process of globalization, with its scale and development speed expanding and improving to an unprecedented level. Especially after the relaxation of foreign trade operational rights for enterprises, numerous small and medium-sized enterprises have directly stood on the same starting line of the transnational market and international competition. The demand for compound talents familiar with international trade and customs clearance operations is continuously expanding. China's customs authority, based on the management system for customs declaration enterprises and customs declaration personnel, began implementing the national unified examination system for customs declaration personnel qualifications in 1997. Classification of imported and exported commodities is the fundamental knowledge and skills for customs declaration personnel, and also an important part of the national unified examination system for customs declaration personnel qualifications. Some higher education institutions in China have successively established higher vocational education majors in customs to meet this need. This textbook, "Fundamentals of Commodity Classification," was written to meet this teaching demand. This textbook is also widely applicable to students majoring in foreign trade, business managers, import and export business personnel, customs declaration industry personnel, and other personnel using the Harmonized System, especially candidates preparing to take the national unified examination system for customs declaration personnel qualifications.
