At the age of 12, he began reading the family-compiled "The ABC of Hundred Diseases," followed by studying "The Three-Character Classic of Medicine," "The Pharmacopeia," "The Rhyming Lyrics of Decoctions," and the diagnostic principles of "The Golden Mirror of Medicine." He also learned the essential techniques of four diagnostic methods, Shanghan syndrome, miscellaneous diseases, gynecology, pediatrics, acupuncture, and other core knowledge, as well as "The Supplementary and Corrected Annotations on Famous Physicians' Formulas." Some of the content became so familiar to him that he could recite it effortlessly, earning praise from his parents.
