Chasing the Lamp of Life: Heart-to-Heart Conversations with Ninety-Nine Tibetans

Features: Two years later, I followed the production team from Lhasa into the depths of northern Tibet: white clouds and blue skies, sacred lakes and holy mountains, herds of yaks and sheep, prayer flags and mani piles, living Buddhas, lamas, nuns, hermits, preachers, shamans, Gesar epic storytellers, sky burial masters, hereditary thangka painters, stone carvers, grassland herders, the Wenbu people living in the ancient seabed, the mysterious ancient kingdom of Zhangzhung, Tantric masters practicing at home, devout pilgrims spinning prayer wheels, and pilgrims measuring the earth with their bodies through prostrations. Every scene I witnessed and the nearly 100 people I interviewed deeply moved me, profoundlyed me. As an interviewer, the task is to preserve the original form—in whatever way it differs from your subjective imagination, you must faithfully replicate it. I know that those who have been there will have a sense of kinship with nature and the universe that belongs to their own lives. —Author
