Vaginal itching, how is it caused?

Patient's question:

Doctor, hello. I would like to ask about my gynecological issues. Initially, about a week before my period, there is purulent discharge and swelling with itching in the vagina, and it can infect my partner during sexual activity. Additionally, after sexual activity, there is itching in the pubic hair area for 1 to 2 minutes.

Doctor's answer:

One week before menstruation, if the external genital area is itchy, consider the possibility of vaginitis transmission. Check a routine vaginal discharge test to confirm the cause before starting treatment. Itching in the genital area is often caused by trichomoniasis or fungal infections leading to vaginitis, where a large amount of abnormal vaginal discharge accumulates in the external genital area, causing itching. Lack of hygiene during menstruation or wearing synthetic underwear during the day can keep the external genital area in a moist and warm environment, often leading to itching. For general fungal vaginitis, it is common to take Nystatin tablets and apply Clotrimazole cream externally.
