What are the symptoms of trichomoniasis?

Patient's question:

I've been feeling uncomfortable down there. When I urinate, I feel a pain as if my bladder is being pressed. It's also not very clean, and my vaginal discharge is abnormal with a foul odor. I'm afraid to have sex with my husband because I'm worried he'll smell the odor on me and get annoyed with me.

Doctor's answer:

Increased leukorrhea and vulvar itching are the main symptoms of trichomoniasis, characterized by an increase in thin, foamy leukorrhea and vulvar itching. If other bacteria are mixed and transmitted, the discharge may become purulent with a foul odor. The itchy areas are primarily the vaginal opening and vulva, occasionally accompanied by burning, pain, or dyspareunia. If the urethral opening is affected, symptoms may include frequent urination, dysuria, and sometimes hematuria. A careful examination reveals congestion of the vaginal mucosa, scattered bleeding spots in severe cases, and a thick, grayish-yellow or yellowish-white thin liquid or yellowish-green purulent discharge, often foamy. Carriers may show no abnormal findings in the vaginal mucosa.
What are the hazards of trichomoniasis?
1. The main hazard of trichomoniasis is causing pain and discomfort.
2. It can lead to secondary infections such as trichomoniasis of the urethra, cystitis, and pyelonephritis.
