Patient's question:
I had a miscarriage surgery last December, and the doctor told me I had cervical polyps and removed them. A few days after my period ended this month, there was a little bit of blood again, very, very little. After the procedure, the blood was bright red. Why is this happening? Do cervical polyps recur?Doctor's answer:
Cervical polyps are caused by chronic inflammation. If only the polyps are removed, the inflammation in the cervical canal still exists, so it is very likely that the polyps will recur. Moreover, some polyps grow deep in the cervical canal, and when removed, the root of the polyp cannot be completely excised. Soon after, polyps grow back from the root. Additionally, some patients have multiple cervical polyps of varying sizes. During surgery, only the larger polyps visible to the naked eye are removed, while smaller polyps hidden deep in the cervical canal cannot be removed together. These small polyps gradually grow and extend outward from the cervical opening, eventually forming new polyps that are visible to the naked eye.
