French is the language used by over 100 million people living in different countries and regions around the world and is also one of the working languages of the United Nations. In international exchanges, especially in the various events and activities of the Olympics, French is widely used. "Practical French: 201 Sentences" is a basic oral French textbook designed to help beginners in French communicate in daily simple conversations and basic interactions in French, preparing them for further improvement in their language skills. Those with some foundation in French can also improve their conversational skills by studying this textbook.
The textbook is divided into 30 units based on different topics and communicative functions. Each unit consists of two lessons, with each lesson focusing on introducing 3–4 basic sentences. The entire book contains 60 lessons and 210 basic sentences. The basic structure of each lesson is as follows:
Basic Sentence – Conversation – Word Expression – Usage Explanation – Sentence Application – Scenario Practice
"The basic sentence" is the learning focus of each lesson; the "conversation" section provides examples of using the basic sentences for communication; "word expression" includes the phonetic transcription, Chinese translation, or necessary explanations of the words and expressions used in the conversation; the "usage explanation" section provides concise explanations of the key words and basic grammar used in the conversation; "sentence application" and "scenario practice" are the practice sections of each lesson, offering alternative words and communicative contexts to help learners review and consolidate the content of each lesson.
The textbook is accompanied by a cassette tape with recordings read by French friends.
