Features: This book takes the financial development practices in post-war Malaysia as an example to explore the role of government-led financial systems implemented by developing countries in East and West in economic development. Starting from the relationship between the Malaysian government, the central bank, commercial banks, and emerging business groups, it employs relevant theories such as new financial political economy, institutional economics, and development economics to conduct an in-depth analysis and discussion of the government's role in promoting the development and innovation of the domestic financial system. After researching and analyzing the financial development practices in Malaysia, the book concludes that the role of government in the financial development of developing countries is not only limited to substituting and compensating for market mechanisms to achieve optimal allocation of financial resources, as explained by traditional theories, but more importantly, it lies in driving the reform and innovation of the domestic financial system. The book is divided into eight chapters: Chapter 1 is the introduction section; Chapter 2 analyzes the formation and development of the theory of government intervention in the financial sector; Chapter 3 introduces the development process of the Malaysian financial system; Chapters 4 and 5 objectively evaluate the financial development practices in Malaysia; Chapter 6 primarily introduces the application of new financial political economy, market enhancement theory, and institutional innovation theory in developing countries; Chapter 7 explores the implications of Malaysian financial research for China's financial reforms; and Chapter 8 is the conclusion section of the book, summarizing and analyzing the three main research questions of the book, namely the relationship between government and enterprises, the role of government in promoting the reform and innovation of the domestic financial system, and the development direction of financial reforms in Malaysia and other East Asian developing countries.
