Features: This book is the student workbook for the "New College English" textbook published by FLTRP. It was jointly designed and written by the lead editor of "New College English," the writing team, and other teachers currently using the textbook. The "New College English Student Workbook" strives to meet the diverse needs of students using the textbook and follows the "student-centered thematic teaching model." The writing team starts from the existing English foundation and language knowledge of students, adhering to the characteristics and principles of foreign language learning. The book is compiled based on students' interests, linguistic accuracy, and contemporary relevance, guided by systematicity, scientific rigor, and knowledge.
The new "College English Teaching Syllabus" considers China's social needs and has been thoroughly validated for feasibility. It not only raises the vocabulary requirements for CET-4 and CET-6 but also adds 1,000 advanced vocabulary words (post-CET-6). At the same time, an increase in English vocabulary for secondary schools is also imperative. To implement the syllabus's spirit and anticipate reforms in primary and secondary English teaching, "New College English" sets high vocabulary requirements. To encourage students to continuously improve, the word list not only provides detailed Chinese and English definitions but also includes numerous example sentences.
To complement the textbook, this workbook offers detailed annotations and examples for frequently used, high-frequency, and reusable vocabulary, particularly their common collocations and new meanings of old words. To deepen vocabulary understanding and facilitate memorization, (association), (comparison and contrast) methods are employed, providing common phrases, synonyms (and group synonyms), homophones, antonyms, and more, offering students direct and effective help in vocabulary.
The workbook also analyzes and translates difficult sentences from in-class and out-of-class reading materials. For ease of comprehension, the English explanations are simple and clear, while the Chinese translations are mostly literal. The full translation of in-class reading texts is also included in each unit. Exercises follow each annotation, allowing students to complete them in minutes and immediately check the answers to reinforce knowledge.
At the end of each unit, a comprehensive test covers the key points and perspectives of the unit (including in-class and out-of-class reading), enabling students to assess their overall mastery. Additionally, the workbook supplements related knowledge based on schema theory and association theory, helping students review and expand their understanding.
