Author: [USA] Bloom
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-09-01
Features: This book describes the evolution of language, closely linking human linguistics with other humanities. While introducing anthropology, it also reviews cognitive anthropology. The "Contemporary Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Library" has been a great success since its launch in September 2000. The first 54 titles were printed in 5,000 sets, which quickly sold out, requiring a second printing of 6,000 sets in October. Publishing such a large-scale collection of linguistic works within such a short period is rare in the history of academic publishing in China. Since its publication, many institutions and individuals have rushed to order it. Graduate and undergraduate students regard the Library as a valuable guide, while teachers of all ages see it as a source of knowledge renewal. Practice has proven that the Library, launched by FLTRP, has been widely praised by the domestic linguistic and foreign language teaching communities. It will become a treasure trove for advancing linguistic teaching and research, as well as foreign language teaching and research in China. Building on the success of the first 54 titles, FLTRP now presents the second batch of 58 titles for the Library. The second batch of the Library has five key features:
1. Comprising 58 original English-language works, it covers 33 disciplines, an increase from the first batch's 26, including newly added fields such as the history of linguistics, philosophy of language, cognitive linguistics, anthropological linguistics, the origins of language, and chemical grammar theories, thereby more comprehensively meeting readers' needs;
2. It includes influential works by renowned linguistic masters such as Saussure, Sapir, Bloomfield, Halliday, Chomsky, Austin, Grice, and Leech, ensuring higher authority;
3. It adds classic linguistic works published by world-renowned publishers such as Oxford University Press and Harvard University Press;
4. It still includes expert introductions, with an even stronger team of experts than the first batch;
5. The book is prefaced by the world-renowned linguist Professor Noam Chomsky and the distinguished Chinese linguist Professor Jia Xianhan.
This Library is a large-scale, open-ended series that will actively promote linguistic teaching and research, as well as foreign language teaching and research in China. In the future, FLTRP will continue to introduce the latest and most influential linguistic and applied linguistic works to readers.
